Who is Royal Canin?

Royal Canin was founded in 1967 by the French Veterinarian, Jean Cathary, as one of the world’s largest pet food companies owned by Mars. His first product was a grain-based recipe he prepared in an oven in his garage.

Expanding its business by importing extruders from the USA, Royal Canin became the first European manufacturer to produce dry animal food in France. It began distribution throughout Europe, with a larger factory opened later in Aimargues. The company produced 5500 with 40 employees. Cathary, who also established a factory in Spain, sold the company to the Guyomarc’h group in 1972. With this acquisition, the company grew and developed and sales centers were created in Europe. However, Guyomarc’h started to suffer and with the bankruptcy of the company acquired by Paribas Bank in 1990, the company was split into 4 separate businesses. The bank stated that it intends to sell Royal Canin at an affordable price, and the value of the company shares was increased on the Paris stock exchange. In July 2001, the company was sold to the Mars company, which made a better offer, for 1.5 billion euros. The European Commission has also accepted this purchase, and Royal Canin, which has factories in countries such as France, Spain, United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Republic of South Africa, sells its products to more than 120 countries. The company puts a lot of effort into keeping animals healthy and protecting Animal Rights.
